In 2019 I traveled to Xi’an, the ancient capital of China with Jason Wang the CEO of Xi’an Famous Foods, to photograph the city and his childhood home. We then recreated and shot here in Queens the much loved recipes of the restaurant as well as family recipes from his father, the original founder of the company. This book is filled with beautiful double page spreads of family style meals, very similar to what I grew up with, as well as some of my favorite travel photos shot on location in Xi’an. As a Chinese immigrant myself, the story told in this book of Jason and his family very much parallels my own. I cannot speak enough about how special this project was to me.
